Two contrasting issues, and only one has hit the headlines! Why?

It is a very interesting social study to note that ONLY the Police Brutality inherent in our Police Department was reinforced at the HNDA demo last week.

I don’t want to delve into that as it has been discussed to death and I found the link as one that makes a suggestion of a complete overhaul of the SLPD as the only way to make the needed transformation into the Government’s “yahapalanaya” agenda.

I have therefore left commenting on it for the time being awaiting the various commission and their findings and recommendations, before I comment on the adequacy and follow up of recommendations thereon.

To me the more sinister one is that of the exploitation of the students by interested parties to achieve their own political goals, and in that they scored a home run, that they are currently savoring, whilst they don’t care a toss about the canon fodder, namely the kids who got hurt, who helped them achieve this classic win, with the Government the loser, the underdog and on the defensive.

The public has been bought over hook line and sinker by the students, and the Government maintains that they have acceded to the demands, and so it is open season by the students to demand anything they like and demonstrate on a weekly basis messing up the traffic and getting away with it.

This has galvanized other Universities who feel the HNDA have stolen their thunder and wish to make up for it by more unreasonable demands, completely shaking the administration of the University system to its core.

Just imagine if you are the VC. Your students are able to get demands from the Govt. when you can’t! How would you feel? They have actually gone over your head, when they feel they can achieve from the Ministry, that which they have not been able to get from you. I don’t envy your position in this regard.

WE MUST RESTORE THE TOPIC OF STUDENTS RIGHT TO PROTEST ON THE FRONT BURNER TOO.

This subject must be revisited and resolved, so that the Country does not have to pay for the unreasonable demands, of students who have suddenly been emboldened by a Govt. who seem pliable to public opinion on the Student’s behalf! Soon society will rue the day they gave into Student demands.
