Universal
Periodic Review Meeting in Geneva – US, UK, Canada and France clearly against
and Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan clearly for.
There
were no surprises at the UPR review in Geneva yesrterday, where the SL team which I
believe was headed by the experienced, bull shiter and sycophant, Mahinda
Samarasinghe and which includes the more eloquent and believable rationalist of
an Ambassador in Ravinatha Aryasinha, and the yes man Palith Fernando the
Attorney General.
The
two sets of countries as stated above took opposing views of the progress to
date. This will further give ammunition to the state in its anti Tamil Diaspora
led Western Countries stance that plays well to the gallery in Sri Lanka. The
frustration level that I have with the LTTE Diaspora doing its best to serve
their interests and thus feeding this Govt. with all the hay it wants to
survive for as long as it wants, as long as this attack persists, is infuriating.
We
who fight for justice and fair play for all and against the blatant robbery of
all that is Sri Lankan, find it hard to get our voices heard in the
international hemisphere as they are all drunk with misinformation from the
LTTE lobby to understand the ground realities within Sri Lanka, which are more sinister
and an attack on the institution of Democracy itself.
Sri
Lanka has relatively few violations based purely on race, it is primarily based
on lack of money. A poor person accused of a small crime is beaten up till he is
black and blue, by the Police till he confesses. If one takes KP, the most
senior LTTE leader alive on earth today, he is a govt. kept man living in extreme
comfort, as he paid billions to the Govt. for this benefit. He has been accorded
almost kingly status. The poor LTTE prisoners who are FAR LESS indoctrinated to
the cause, but who have committed a crime during the war as they were ordered are
incarcerated in jail, still WITHOUT charges and there is NO outcry about that. If
the Diaspora had any feeling for real people they would take up their cause. It
is only Sinhala people who care about human beings in Sri Lanka who are constantly
badgering the Govt. to do something about them. Release or Prosecute.
The
ruling elite in Sri Lanka have NO morals, and can be bought for hard cash, and it
is time the Western Powers learn what it is that drives them as in the end there
is one simple answer to greed, give in and get what you want. We are merely fighting
for the real rights of people not theoretical ones.
