Anura Kumara seems to have hit a home run – another aspect of Presidential duplicity!

We all know how Mahinda Rajapakse makes a habit of calling (especially his rivals) and wishes people on their birthdays, and other occasions when they deserve congratulations.

Anura Kumara has just been appointed the leader of the JVP and it is likely that the President called to wish him, 4 times, and he did NOT take the call. Anura Kumara tells the world, he did not wish to speak to the President, as he makes a habit of publicizing this to the world through his media, and tries to obtain credit for this publicity stunt.

AKD made this point in some press conference or TV program, that he does not like the benefit that the President makes from this kind of thing, as it should be a more personal case of humaneness and civilized behavior, but instead it is now a case of uncivilized cheap political capital being made of another’s celebration, not even a case of vicarious celebration, but of vicarious pleasure in belittling such a celebration.

The link above gives the details of the event and his rationalization, which AKD has in turn flipped over to his advantage, and shown off the President of Sri Lanka as a low down dirty two bit scoundrel!!!

I don’t think it is in him (that is the President) to understand such slights, and instead he will continue his merrymaking phone calls, as he sees more political pluses than minuses. His political rivals do not engage in crass PR of this nature to score political points, but hell why does he give a damn, if the people are fooled into believing his goodness, and not his deception.

The readers are perfectly entitled to their own interpretation of the events, after being made fully aware of the facts, and let us congratulate AKD at least for letting us know what he thinks of this commonly known and equally commonly misinterpreted gimmick that the President of Sri Lanka desperate for false public adulation, that he gets by his actions.
