The Scumbags in Colombo are trying desperately to contact the Powers in DAVOS

Not a day passes after the demise of MKDS, when the deal makers in the political world are trying to contact the PM and Malik who are the ones they have to pitch on who to put into the National List to replace him. Actually there is not one but two vacancies, as Hafeez from the SLMC also resigned, but now that RW has the upper hand he will tell Hakeem to fly a kite and will appoint someone else to that position, as Hakeem is no longer an essential power broker!

So when the PM thought he could get away for a few days in the snows of Davos and be on his pedestal, the wannabees are desperately trying to call, and the hapless Private Secretary, Saman Ekanayake has to say that he is busy!

Whilst no one takes no for an answer, it is simply a real pain that this has happened while at the WEC. NO doubt the PM and Malik are discussing this in private, wanting to put one they can completely trust. However the pressure and the lobbying to get others in is simply oppressive.

Technically any loser in the Elections is eligible as well from those originally put on the list. However after refusing to put losers, putting them now unless there is a cast iron case due to political need, to pass the new Constitution, he will have to look elsewhere, which means outside.

I am insistent that this comes from a completely new source, and I want a 25 year old, boy or girl wonder, to represent the YOUTH. There is NO ONE currently in tune with what the youth want, and what they certainly don’t want is party politics, something that is still entrenched in Parliament.

So time to appoint a person WITHOUT party affiliations, and only for competence, and proven excellence who will not sing the tune of any of the present jokers in the Assembly. WOULDN’T IT BE REFRESHING? Just think about it. High time we have some refreshing thoughts not the staid and yesterdays news of the old school politics.

The only way the PM can ensure a future SL with no party politics bickering is to put someone without this allegiance, and show that the way forward is through independent thought in the best interests of the Country.

SOMEONE WITH NO ALLEGIANCE – WOW – Time for a new idea, to start the new year and the new Constitutional process, and give it some lift off, and show the fossils that their time is now better spent, watching the birds fly!

The Annual Report of the WEF is worth a read – its got some great stuff in it

Sri Lanka’s presence at the WEF whilst beefed up in the media as a credit to the PMs new governance plans, is part of meeting its own vision and value, with the hope that the networking opportunities will provide our delegation with some useful contacts but as the delegates are old fashioned they will not be able to comprehend the new world order here, a world without DEALS only deal making to drastically reduce the carbon footprint, whilst at the same time, driving business in a sustainable, renwable, and inclusive world using the latest innovation in technology, to make the price of entry so easy, that it will no longer be the exclusive privilege of a few.

For example cloud computing has allowed the one man genius an entry point to design his product (eg APP ) completely on cloud from his farmhouse in the middle of nowhere in his dirt poor country, and potentially be a billionaire if it takes off, within 5 years. So If you are 17 you could be a dollar billionaire when you are 22!

That is the new world we are now in, and it is this type of person who should be attending WEF not those who still think of it as an old fashioned who’s who. Most billionaires there will not even be recognizable as they don’t have entourages anymore, just sneakers and jeans and a t-shirt with a statement.

Trust Ravi K be seen dead in a t shirt at Davos. RW I can accept! Its sad but true, that our only world renowned visionary is RW and we have not brought or in this case he has not brought his protégé to the WEF with him.

The Annual report link above is a must read for the student who does not know what this WEF is all about, and some insight into the work, and the importance of the event in Davos as well as the theme that is chosen as something that can affect the world debate on improving the quality of life of those in the world.

When we are stuck with finding people within Sri Lanka who really care about the improvement in the quality of life within SL, we must admire the altruistic nature of the event and its stated goals.

Please send a virtual reporter to Davos, who will give us a real experience whilst at his desk in Colombo, as it is too late to put someone on the plane to Davos, so how about it someone take on the challenge and give us a glimpse of what really goes on there from your virtual screen in your home!

Davos is not a place to do deals to line one’s pockets – its for visionaries not also rans to talk in sign language

It is important to know why the PM has been invited to Davos. He is a world renowned intellectual and visionary, perhaps with Aspergers, that further enhances his credibility and intellect!

He will be at home discussing the next generation world with this theme of the Fourth! Look at the stellar list of women, and we with a former woman Pres and former women PM (possibly unique there) don’t have a brainy beauty there!

Whilst the PM will certainly be quite at home, I don’t think the rest of the delegation would. They will only want to be seen with the powers, but the magic just cannot rub off on them. The PM will look the other way and shake hands with Warren Buffet and Warren would not mind a bit, as he knows the world is full of quirky billionaires who are so engrossed in their own pet subject. That is how things are. PM is full of pet subjects but NOT his delegation.

I know the PM just did not have time to think of whom to take with him, and actually someone in charge, should make the decision on who should go, as SL being invited for the first time will be ON SHOW this time and a crying shame to display our wares, totally unimpressive in comparison.

I am giving a link to the Fourth and see if Ravi or Malik are on the same plane! I rather think not, but a teen or a twenty something will get something out of it to bring back to SL.

It starts today, lots of activities, and do we even have a reporter at least one, who understands what it is all about to truly report with alacrity, which we mere mortals would love to be in sync with? There in lies the rub.

Dennis Chinthaka from Lankadeepa, an old favorite of the PM but a total bozo as far as appreciating what Davos is about has been dispatched to report. I am NOT expecting anything enlightening to come from such a reporter, as it is a gizmo genius with a flair for the supernatural who should be there reporting on after party goings on, more interesting than the serious sessions, which can be left to another day.

I just hope the terrorism in the Middle East and fall in Global Markets DO NOT dominate proceedings as that is outside the scope of this meeting that should discuss the future after all of that is history. LETS HOPE

The PM in Davos with the wrong team!

For the first time, Sri Lanka has been invited to participate in the WEF in Davos, and the PM is heading a team comprising of some also rans. Think about it. If you were a visionary PM you would take some young buck, despite a wide criticism from the nodding donkeys who only criticize because of ignorance.

Your team must ONLY have 5 others, 2 in their 20s and 3 in their 30s, and Sandra you are a loyal foot soldier and a great lass, as you have been very good to me, but you must give over to a young, attractive, capable 20 something who can do your job with double the energy, and make a mark in Davos, where people are so eager to see who the delegation is. We have plenty out there in Colombo, who could match anyone, even Cameron in a debate and only be the PM’s secretary and person Friday. She could use her charm to get a meeting with the wealthiest and outstanding business men of the day, I am sure Soros could have done the initial PR job, and snag top world leaders with charm.

This exposure will automatically turn even a simple secretary onto the world stage, and we in Sri Lanka will be proud. (Sandra no offence, but you know what I mean)

Shame on Sri Lanka NOT to have any young person who is just so good, but not a politician, who by nature are dishonest, to impress the rest of the world.

That is where the vision things comes in. PM if you are reading you will agree, and only took the old blokes just for the joy ride, that will NOT do Sri Lanka any good. Mark my words, a handsome striking tall Lankan (or beautiful and brainy women) and there are many out there could wow Davos, who are always looking for new ideas, and talent in “Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution” the theme.

Damn it the 4th Industrial Revolution is the Digital Age, driverless cars, traffic free roads, little car ownership, and more Uber and Car Hire to get about. Less time spent on travel anywhere, lowering the carbon footprint. More time relaxing, and improving the quality of life, as one can perform most activity from a screen and not have to leave family and happy pursuits. This is totally lost on our delegation, who are only thinking of amassing as much money as possible just to get rich, but have no clue on how to enjoy life.

PM, it is only the new generation, born post 1990 who know how to really enjoy life, as they have NO intention of commuting, working regular hours, having regular jobs, who will be multitasking between leisure and work, and make work part of their leisure and enjoyable pursuits, so now you know!

Drafting the New Constitution – A fool’s paradise

My last 5 blog entries should have given the reader an insight into the direction I am coming from for the purposes of drawing up a Constitution that WILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME.

There is no chance on this earth, that the proposals, and backward thinking legislators can even think of a Sri Lanka, that can be prosperous and disciplined, as they have NO intention of making it there, because their own selfish interests would then become unattainable.

It is with that simple basic point, that I propose that the whole constitutions vision comes from people who will have to live during its term, and not of those who will definitely be dead fairly shortly! Isn’t that a rational statement for starters?

In the debates I have recently had on this topic, I am told that our Youth are incapable of this vision, but I say, if not they, then who? I broadly agree that the fault of the Education system means we are at a loss to find good people, from amongst the ranks, especially from people in remote communities whose interests, the new CONSTITUTION MUST PROTECT. I however believe there are intelligent people, who can be coerced to give their view of the world, if they are egged on by visionary youth from privileged backgrounds who are dime a dozen in Colombo, the types who will get into Harvard or Oxford, with their eyes closed because of their whole world seeing background and all round experience, something very few of those in the current Wijenayake committee have and those who do, have had it too far in history to be of benefit in the new age of Digital Processed minds, brought up on FB and twitter and the like!

UNLESS this is done as a matter of priority and their suggestions are taken seriously the old dodderers or fools, will come up with ideas only they can understand and drop suggestions like mine as “pie in the sky”. Get real, you guys are the ones who are NOT in the real world and the twenty something’s are part of the real world.

We are talking about the possibility of a Country being on the top rung of the world (a favorable cross between Bhutan and Singapore if you could even imagine that possibility) or a failed state of incompetent buffoons pandering to more buffoons, with all the competents seeking greener pastures in other paradises, taking all the positive energy created with them. This is a very real possibility if we don’t go in a different direction in Constitution making.

Time for a wake-up call, to reconstitute this committee with young blood!

Drafting a New Constitution – Separation of Legislature and Executive is a must for checks and balances

Think about it! No one is in charge today. No one will take action, especially if it is unpopular, as they will lose their voter base. Therefore Parliament, and by extension, Government is impotent. MR used his dictatorial powers for his own ends, and not that of the state, so we are unable to return to that possibility by keeping the Presidency in the same guise.

If the Executive Presidency is abolished, due to the inability to trust the person who holds that position to act in the best interests of the Country, what choices do we have. A Prime Minister elected by the people, to represent all factions of people in parliament.

HE ALONE picks his cabinet from professionals and intellectuals (none of whom are MPs) who will be answerable collectively to the Legislature, who confirm his appointment and is able to impeach the cabinet minister by overriding the PM, if they have sufficient numbers in the Legislature, much like in the US. There are therefore assurances of his competence for the task.

The number of Cabinet members and the portfolios, as well as the departments that come under them will be specifically identified in the Parliament. The portfolio will therefore have power to effect changes, Education will come under one Cabinet Minister, so that private, public, higher, and secondary and even Montessori will come under one minister appointed for his competence. Today there are about 16 Education ministers alone, and everyone washes their hands off on responsibility to improve the quality of education, or be held responsible for its state.

I would expect therefore for a Country the size of Sri Lanka, to be run by a PM and a cabinet of 20 ministers, who are specifically responsible for a specific set of Ministries. The legislature and committees appointed by them, such as COPE will have investigative powers over the Ministries to ensure smooth running devoid of corruption.

The most important aspect of Governing Sri Lanka is plan, action, and evaluation of action after the fact, and making suggestions to correct any wrongdoings, or weaknesses. The past year has been evident by inaction, and in my opinion, that is worse than bad decisions that can be immediately identified and corrected. So let us get into the Action mode, by making decisions.

In summary therefore the PM is the conduit in Parliament, between MPs and the Cabinet who are working full time in their Ministries doing their job.

Drafting of a New Constitution – Electoral Process in the digital age will be more democratic with “instant public polling on each issue!”

Sri Lankan youth have embraced the Digital Media, and a Smartphone today is the first purchase one would make from a paycheck or a cash gift. Actually we seem to be obsessed with mobile phones, whose penetration is such that there have been more sim cards issued than there are people living in the Island!

So within 10 years smart phone penetration will be universal. LISTEN by then NO ONE will want to go anywhere near a POLLING BOOTH. THEY WILL want to express their opinion via Smartphone, and by then, with fingerprint  verification, we can use the Smartphone as the MOST FOOL PROOF to prevent identity theft of any mode of voting, and ALL FOREIGN RESIDING CITIZENS CAN VOTE ON AN ISSUE BASIS FROM THEIR MOBILE PHONE WHEREVER THEY MAY BE ON EARTH, and perhaps even from the moon if they so happen to have gone on a trip there!

This is serious stuff, which anyone under 25 today, knows to be true, and those above may think it is Sci Fi! What does this mean? PARLIAMENT IS IRRELEVENT for passing ACTS, as the people will decide immediately on each issue of National Importance. Parliamentarians will be there merely to look after the interests of their constituents, and they will only do it for altruistic and NOT personal gain, as their power vested in them will be so limited, that all will be just one term parliamentarians.

LEAPFROGGING is the operative word for Sri Lanka. We will skip generations, and be the first country on earth to go direct to people’s choice voting on major issues. Results will be instantaneous and NOT fraudulent as NO human hand will intercede. Computer gilmarts will be history as there will sufficient safeguards to prevent the possibility in voting.

Government as such will be irrelevant in a person’s life, unlike it is today, and therefore there will definitely be less government, and more discipline, where all Govt. servants will be held to account, on the work they are assigned, and will be paid for performance, just as much as in the Private Sector. In this scenario, we must set up our Government structure, that is in tune with this eventuality, and not a barrier to its enactment, which will only slow the pace of democratization and development.

The name of the game will be efficiency, so there are no time wasters and all elections will be held in one day, maximize consistency and digital voting will be inclusive, so all citizens wherever they may be will able to exercise their franchise. Politics as a career will be a thing of the past, so plan accordingly.
