Major General Chandrasiri as Governor of the Northern Province again!

The President has re-appointed Maj Gen Chandrasiri to his post for another five years as his first five year term ends on 12^th July 2014, in the Northern Province in the midst of the TNA requesting a civilian appointment. It must be noted that the Eastern Governor is also an ex Military man. Further he was the Military commander for about 5 years before that, during the time of hostilities.

Make no bones about it, if he completes this term, he will have been the defacto king of Jaffna for 15 years and that is more than many kings of Jaffna ever ruled, secure in the fact that he has been the most powerful King of Jaffna in the history of Jaffna. Ironically there is actually a pretender to the throne of Jaffna at present!

A Sinhala man will never understand that, but for the proud Jaffna Tamils, it is a huge swipe at their sense of entitlement. Most Jaffna Tamils now live in the Diaspora, and the rest in Colombo as millionaires and billionairs,  as now most people in Jaffna are settlers from Killinochchi District and therefore NOT Jaffna Tamils. This is reflected in the quality of the people and the youth who are more interested in alcohol than studies unlike the Jaffna Tamil of the first half of the 20^th Century. Never mind the fact that the Sinhala people did not mind a Tamil King as we had for many years and the language spoken in Court was always Tamil. It shows to whom egos matter most.

Actually to a true follower of Buddhism, it does not matter a toss who rules you as long as your basic ability to live a meritorious life is not messed up with. That to an extent was why there was not so much in the way of insurgencies in the 500 years of foreign rule as in European, as opposed to Tamil Kings of yore, who were much more interested in warfare and conquering. Oh how we have distorted history now, to suit our personal agendas.

Actually I blame some of the intransigence of the TNA leaders on their arrogance and pride, and someone really needs to tell them off, in a nice way, so they understand their personal weaknesses and deal with their demons, so the Tamil people are NOT held hostage to their machinations, that don’t help them. It is not to say the Sinhala Thugs running the country are not without their insanity either!          

This amounts to the definite stamping of Presidential authority saying not to mess with me there, and no matter what others say or plead I will have him there as he is the best man that I know of to do that job. He has managed the security there well, and here have been very few. So long live Prince Chandrasiri, courtesy of the TNA  

The time has come to remove Hakeem – as bad for Sri Lanka

A political opportunist with connections

Hakeem from Kandy, the Minister of Justice for an absurdly long period in Sri Lanka is a floating Muslim, who is all things to all men. He claims his constituency as the Muslims of the Eastern Province, as that was I believe where the power base of the Muslim Congress of Ashraff came from and which is machinated to grab on Ashraff’s untimely and still unsolved demise in the Helicopter Accident.  

I show the link below to an address he made to the Foreign Correspondents’ Association in Sri Lanka, a very influential body on world opinion on Sri Lanka, and it was clear from what he had told them, that he unequivocally blamed the rising BBS militancy as a precursor to the possible radicalization of Muslims in Sri Lanka!

This is a VERY SERIOUS ALLEGATION, which is speculative at best and factually incorrect at worst. If one reads history, Muslims 50 years ago were far more integrated with the local people and conformed in dress and behavior and practiced their beliefs without much visual inconvenience with the host majority community. This has changed, long before the BBS ever appeared on the scene.

I am neither Buddhist or Muslim and am trying to be impartial, however difficult that might be in this particular essay. It is possible that the BBS arose out of this perceived threat that the powerful Muslims in Sri Lanka did nothing to prevent or minimize. The radical ideas of Muslims in the past 50years from the early 1970’s possibly made easy due to the wealth generated in the oil crisis 1970s, have in a very sinister way entered SL Muslim society in slow but steady way. As Imams are NOT a structured system like Buddhist Clergy or Christian Church hierarchy, it is easy for well funded organizations, to produce Imams deft at preaching their sort of Islam, and changing thought in a subtle way which has definitely taken place.

I wish I had a video of an Imam 50 years ago today speaking at Friday prayers to compare with one of today to illustrate my point. Any moderate Muslim reading this will know what I am getting at. 

IT IS INCUMBENT upon moderate Muslims to CHALLENGE the current move to radicalism within the community and NOT BLAME external forces for their incubation of radicalism. 

TO SHORE UP HIS LAGGING SUPPORT HAKEEM HAS EMBRACED RADICALISM. 

He has  become part of the problem and not the solution. Time he is taken out of the game.  WHERE ARE THE MODERATES?

I am willing to accept that there are some elements of truth in some of these stories but padded they surely are to make bed time reading if it was not a life and death decision for some people.

Who said living in Sri Lanka is a piece of cake. This is life for all in a state of lawlessness. If the Australian Immigration Authorities heard all the stories and took in refugees based on that ONLY THE GOVT MP AND MINISTERS WOULD REMAIN ALONG WITH THE PRESIDENT AND SOME OF HIS SYCOPHANTS in the Island!!

Trust me every Sri Lankan including me has a “refugee status justification story” to relate about our personal circumstances. Remember this is a land like no other, and it is in that sense the wonder of the world, as we tolerate an administration that continues to exploit people and put them into compromising situations, by threats of revenge, blackmail, torture and in short a whole country living in fear not knowing when and where the next disaster is to await them.

There is only one simple answer to all the problems of Sri Lanka.  It is a return to the RULE OF LAW. Once that is in place, then all the other issues will settle themselves of their own accord, as then the criminal elements will be locked up and the law abiding free to live their lives knowing that justice will prevail.

It is easier said than done but nevertheless quite possible in a short time if there is a will amongst the people to change the status quo.

A parallel universe is funny – but when the messenger is a sycophant it turns deadly!

Malinda Seneviratne’s cynical view of the NGO wallahs and their world, where they earn a living playing to the tune of their donors who have an agenda is all very well, but let not the reader be stilled into a false sense of security by the deadly serious fundamentalist bent of the reader. As one set of people, with a chip on their shoulder when they study in the US, display in a virulent anti- American way like Malinda does, but it is selective. He has not yet uttered one word against the American citizen Ghotabhaya who has taken the oath of defending the Constitution of the United States of America, where he has NOT taken any oath to defend the Sri Lankan constitution, as he received that as a birth right!

In using selective amnesia in naming traitors to the cause, he fails to name and shame the biggest traitor that currently exerts the power in this our tiny isle.

Poking fun at the fact that whilst France has banned the wearing of a burqa as illegal, with little protest from Muslims or Muslim countries, his implication is that his BBS, if it suggested the same would cause uproar as a racist and fundamentalist outfit! His headline asking the IGP to resign was another part of the deception.

I don’t know why this journalist should take us Sri Lankans for fools, when he should concentrate in writing poems, as he has NO financial need for journalism, except to spew out his excrement of words to fool the masses. (contradicts)

It is his darling President who is at fault here, as he should ban the burqa here as he has a two thirds majority in parliament and has nothing to fear, but does not. He sees his gravy train as our slaves in the Middle East that keeps him and his cohort of 100+ ministers in clover, and does not wish to upset them. It has nothing to do with the BBS!  Whilst being able to loot the filling exchequer of earnings from our workers that make this country rich, he would sell our society, ruin our family values, without making the decisions that the burqa is an unnecessary extremist stance, we have done without all this time, so why allow it now. Islam has not changed surely! Let us just not get fooled by this kind of apostate, who changes his beliefs to suit his political masters, aka an opportunist.

You are a journalist, who wants a story and you appear NOT to care if your story is credible or even believable, so you resort to opinion to bring home your point, whilst misusing the facts.

Of course it is a violation of a Country’s law in leaving the Country unofficially just as it is a violation in the UK or even in Australia so to do. So that fact should not be misused as it is a normal rule in any country.

You then trump up theories that these people are abused on arrival back or when returned once they have been caught by the Australian authorities in the high seas. There may be instances where this happens and is no more or less than that which happens if one is unfortunate to be taken in to the custody of the SL police force which has yet to come into the 21^st Century! Now with the latest batch of 41 returnees from Australia, we read of abuse by the Australians, so they get it both ways! They are the victims yes of a scam, not of a status of refugee!

The Australian High Commission has done extensive studies to show that the people leaving for Australia, are NOT those who would have faced abuse if they were in Sri Lanka, and simply put they are taking a calculated gamble for a better life! This calculated gamble can only have fewer takers when the Australian Govt. takes steps to ensure ALL asylum seekers are returned. They then making the claim they will be tortured when they return, is a little rich in the extreme, as it is them who put themselves in harms way!

In short it is an excellent policy on the part of the Australian Govt. who are the winners, and Sri Lanka can remain neutral here as the behavior of the refugees only brings a bad name to SL, where it seems like a Country where their citizens only want to leave, even on a rickety boat out of here. That is a separate issue that the dictatorial state must deal with if they are to remain relevant. 

I am a huge critic of the SL Govt. and know there are thousands whose lives are at risk, who deserve to get asylum status. However these deserving cases DO NOT get asylum, and know it and struggle against the odds to survive many an incident within Sri Lanka as they have NO chance of getting out. They are NOT the people the smugglers target, and so do not get out on a boat!

The current preferred route is to get a boat out of here, but it must be shown by way of example that this route is bound to fail, and it is best avoided, as the only beneficiaries are people smugglers who make a killing out of the misery of others, and in the end let them down badly, due to the misinformation that is conveyed. 

Once it hits everyone all round that they are merely pawns in a game, this people smuggling racket will stop, and we will not have refugees anymore trying to make it to Australia or NZ. The people who really have to worry about their safety, should be allowed to go to the Australian HC in Colombo and ask for asylum.

ALL BOAT PEOPLE are economic migrants, and thats that. These migrants are needed in Australia to do the dirty work, but is politically NOT acceptable for the party in power! 

Having them languishing in Papua NG or anywhere else for that matter is what SHOULD STOP. Productive people should NOT be left to twiddle their thumbs due to the incompetence of the policies of the Govt. that intercepted the boats they came in.

So Cyril is in town and an unauthorized twitter account of his says he is here to watch the South African Cricketers in action! Well that account may be right, as there is nothing that he says or does that will change the status quo of an obstinate administration believing in its infallibility “so help me God!”

I urge the readers to follow the diplomatic language he will issue, as both Countries want to be friends and birds of a feather wish to stick together! As he has been given this task by the SA president he is just doing his duty or at least seen to be. In this regard the showman ship of the SL President is to show to the world that he is doing his all, despite the disapproval of his coalition partners.

All this is part of the boru show being put on to titillate the ignorant masses into a false sense of cooperation, which MR will use to gain maximum political advantage.

I am sure Cyril would have never met such a wily creature as our President, who never is what he shows himself to be. I hope he also realizes that until the TNA apologize for their being apologists for the LTTE they too are sullied in blood and are equally culpable.

It would be ironic to see Sambandan sharing the lifers cell with MR, and trust me Samby will outlive MR inside. So much for the boru talk.

Tamil and Sinhala people of Sri Lanka it is time you regain Sri Lanka from these miscreants and show the world what this Country is made up of, a far better breed than the UPFA and TNA politicians and their henchmen  and sycophants.

So as I noted in my previous entry, just look at the hilarious side of Cyril’s visit by rhyming, nice one Cyril, nice one son, nice one Cyril let’s have another shy at the ball in the Cricket Match, and may the best team win.

Let all of us ignore the visit and enjoy the cricket, and by so doing we will keep our wits about us, without getting unduly hot under the collar of this visit of NO consequence.      

What can Cyril Ramaphosa add to the ethnic debate in Sri Lanka?

Cyril Ramaphosa is a potential Presidential candidate and is likely to become the next President of South Africa. The government has therefore agreed to permit his visit and appear civil to Cyril, despite the protestations of their Coalition partners, the JHU and NFF. Further we may need south Africa's help in the international sphere and do not wish to upset a few friends we have, as Jacob Zuma is a fellow despot in a smaller scale!

Of course the noise made by both of them far outweigh their electoral importance, and as such our Media should be castigated for even reporting what Warnasighe for the JHU says or what Weerawansa pontificates as that is totally irrelevant to the debate.

The visit is for the administration to fool the South Africans, and what is the bet he will leave with a lot of nice things to say about MR and his Govt. as they will say everything Cyril wants to hear and as is quite usual do quite the opposite. This is a tried and tested drama as it relates to foreign visitors coming to Sri Lanka to give their two cents on the impasse that is Sri Lanka. The ball is in the Govt. court to solve the problem and they can if they so wish, but they have NO INTENTION of doing so as they believe it is better electorally not to solve it for their longevity.

When we have a Govt. in power that is NOT concerned about the people who live in it what can we say that will help the state of play other than to quickly get rid of this Govt. Sadly we are not powerful enough to do so, and at present the people of Sri Lanka are completely under the spell of lies perpetuated by the Govt.

Being held hostage to this drama is not in the best interests of this country, but ALL SRI LANKANS are hostages here.

Let us hope that Cyril will be able to use his charm, that he used so eloquently in the negotiations to ensure that were able to end apartheid on our stubborn leaders to be less stubborn and sort out a very simple problem even when one looks at the ongoing problems South Africa faces today. We should be in a position to advise South Africa and not the reverse.  

As long as we have these despots in power it is likely to be a long haul to be free from international interference. It is ironic that the man who says that they can solve their own problems will have to deal with international outcry until he leaves office, and then all problems will be solved. So he is the cause of international interference. He will not understand, but let us hope that the people will sooner rather than later.
