The news of the demise in Singapore of
the Ven Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera this morning was unexpected and extremely
sad. I did not know how ill he had been, and though we were told that he was
very depressed about the way the “Yahpalanaya” that he had introduced, was in fact
practiced, we did not realize the true level of the harmful mind body
connection it had on his health.
It is almost as if it was a wake-up call
to us that the whole concept of “YAHAPALANAYA” that was hijacked from him, has been
used and abused by politicians, who have only paid lip service to his vision,
and used it to gain electoral advantage to pursue their own brand of greed and
exploitation of the person, against the public.
His funeral on Thursday, at the
Parliamentary Grounds is regrettable as it will be the very rogues who belittled
his dream, who will attend and be seen on live TV, for the wrong reasons in
public.
They will all be in their white finery
to signify condolence, compassion and purity when in fact they are the CAUSE OF HIS
PREMATURE DEMISE!
It is our duty to revive the true
concept of ‘Yahapalanaya’ in keeping with his true wishes, that was amply
explained by him, and to that end it is ONLY for the Youth of this country to
form a movement to carry his legacy forward, as they are the Custodians of his legacy.
It is time the Old Geysers who always
merely pay lip service and want to hold onto the limelight, while dismissing
his brand of Good Governance, bowed out and let the next generation, which I
will call GENERATION 2065 to take over this concept and bring it back into
public debate with a view to forcing the Government to enact legislation and
hopefully a NEW CONSTITUTION to carry forward these primary objectives of Good
Governance enshrined in this new Constitution, which will hopefully enable the
affairs of state to be practiced with this primary foundation.
If his life and teachings are to be
followed, and NOT MERELY giving him a send off to satisfy personal
gratification, and false mourning by those n power, it is up to us, and I am
sorry that I was not able to meet him to discuss how we should move forward, when
only ten days ago, I wanted to meet him to advise me in how his wishes could proceed and was told he was unwell.
I will not be attending his funeral to pay
my last respects, as I KNOW he would NOT approve of the whole misguided show aimed
at satisfying the Govt. inability to show him any positive progress of his ideals!
